As Arkham Horror: The Card Game is about to enter the tenth year of its lifespan, a brand new Core Set is incoming to help both new and veteran players find fresh and exciting reasons to be mad at FFG. The Chapter Two Core Set includes 5 new investigators, a 3 scenario campaign, and apparently a yet-to-be-determined number of reasons to complain about it existing.
“You’re telling me I’m forced to buy another Core Set?” said Tom Thompson, who isn’t forced to buy anything. “That’s it! I’m done supporting this game.”
“Three scenarios isn’t very many scenarios,” added Josh Johnson about the included introductory campaign. “I don’t know why, but knowing it’s three just puts me off.”
Meanwhile, game store owners were thrilled for the new attention coming to the game. “After ten years of Arkham Horror: The Card Game, the community was getting tired of complaining about the same things since 2016. And as we know, a lot of the community complains about the game as much as they play it, so providing new problems is really important to us. This new Core Set allows our community to complain using combinations and synergies we never even thought about before,” said game store owner Tiffany Jacobs.
“Like what do you mean future campaigns are going to use encounter cards from the new Core Set? Will those campaigns be unplayable without Chapter Two? Or can I just tweak the rules with an Ultimatum to replace new encounter cards with older ones if that’s what I own, and vice versa? Can I even have the right encounter cards to play Drowned City with this thing? Doesn’t that make the Current Environment kind of screwed up if it takes two different core sets to play all the campaigns within it? I have no idea what’s going on there, and that’s thrilling for the business.”
“I’m just mad it’s not a board game expansion for my favourite board game,” said Trevor Smith, who has been disgruntled for this exact reason for several years now.
The new Core Set for Arkham Horror: The Card Game will be releasing in 2026.
