Recently, FFG announced a new Core set, apparently known as Chapter Two or something. I’m not totally sure of the name because I didn’t read any of the communication about it — a massive oversight on FFG’s part, to be frank. After taking some time to think and come up with more assumptions about the upcoming release, here’s my opinion: I’m upset and FFG should be doing far, far more to communicate with us, the playerbase, to address the glaring problems I made up.
First of all, you’re telling me this is a whole new Core Set? Why? What was wrong with the old one? I’m definitely not about to throw out the product I have been collecting for several years now. If FFG thinks they can sell me some new set that invalidates all my old product, they can take a hike. They really should do more to explain how this Core Set is supposed to work because with the severe lack of communication from this supposedly successful game studio, it’s just been me making things up in all the spare time I have from ignoring every article and video on exactly this topic. And trust me, I’ve made up a lot of problems to be angry about.
Second, are they just not going to address how critical rules have been changed between the previous Core Set and this new product? I literally don’t know if they did or not, but I assume that they did. It just seems like something they would do. Obviously, FFG isn’t going to talk about my concern because why would they? More toxic behaviour from our “favourite” game company! Can’t wait for more of this cardboard slop to get lapped up by the masses who are “reading articles” or “watching videos” instead of using their own reasoning.
Some community folks have been trying to tell me that it actually is perfectly compatible with old material and that my fears are “unfounded”. All I can say is new releases sure have a way of bringing all the corporate bootlickers out of the woodwork. Look, if I worshipped a greedy capitalist game studio enough to waste my team reading the articles they put out on exactly the topic that I am making up horrible imaginary scenarios for, then maybe I’d hold those opinions too. But I’m not like that. I think for myself instead of letting corporate articles tell me what to believe. And FFG should actually do something and listen to players like me to address how absolutely furious I am about these decisions.
For example, apparently Joe Diamond is in this Core Set? Excuse me, FFG – I already own Joe Diamond! Why are you trying to sell me exactly the same investigators I already own? AT LEAST give him new abilities or signatures. But I guess that’s too much to ask for. Seriously, FFG, why are you not putting any brand new characters in the box? Yet again the answer is simple – lazy design from a greedy game company, at least I assume that’s the answer, since I never actually read any of the articles they have released about the product. If there was at least a new campaign in here, maybe I could forgive them a little bit. It wouldn’t even need to be long, like three scenarios would be plenty for me. Of course, I’m sure they won’t do that. More disappointment from FFG. Classic!
At least after I skip this product, I’ll still be able to use my encounter cards from the original Core Set to play the next campaign cycle. So I’m glad FFG got at least one thing right!
