An exciting find had the show floor at the 2088 Antiques Roadshow buzzing as Arkham Horror: The Card Game player John Townsend brought a mint condition, first edition printing of Joe Diamond’s signature event, Detective’s Intuition. The rare find, which featured alternative artwork of literally the same image as Establish Motive from Carolyn Fern’s starter pack, was quickly valued at $10,000 by appraisers and was the talk of the convention.

“Arkham Horror: The Card Game is now on Chapter 7, so material from 60 years ago is hard to come by,” said Quincy Chang, who specializes in early 21st century card games. “Especially these kind of cards which show alternative artwork certainly would have been highly regarded by the community back in 2026.”

“Typically, you would have to go to a convention or find a promotional product to gain access to alternative art cards for Arkham Horror: The Card Game. However, in 2026, FFG did something very generous by just giving this alternative art card to all buyers of the initial print run of Chapter 2,” added Rebecca Winston, an appraiser and historian at the convention. “This move was really exciting in the community, and we can tell that because our AI research assistants show the artwork was one of the most talked about things online back in the day. It was really popular!”

“Now some records indicate that this version of the art on this card was actually a production error, in which case it should sell for even more,” Chang added. “We do know that later reprintings changed this artwork, making this beloved imagery of a corkboard with strings and newspaper cuttings harder to come by. Players who missed the boat had to purchase Carolyn Fern’s starter pack to gain access to this art piece.”

John Townsend was blown away by the high valuation. “My grandfather was an Arkham Horror: The Card Game player and he bitched about the art on this card everyday online. I’m sure he never guessed that one day I could sell this card to put my daughter through ten minutes of college.”

Copies of Establish Motive were also available on the show floor, selling for ten cents each.
